Prada Brings Back the Miniskirt, Pointy Pumps For Simultaneous Milan and Shanghai Spring 2022 Show

Legs and feet are forewarned: the Mini and the Pump are about to make a big comeback next year.
Both could be seen on Friday at Prada's Spring '22 Show, a catwalk event that took place simultaneously in Milan and Shanghai for an IRL-meets-digital extravaganza that saw the women's show in two different cities around the world was presented in succession (a sign of the times, not only in terms of travel restrictions imposed by the pandemic, but also the division of China and the rest of the world in more ways than one).

For those who are fed up with the long, floating nap dresses and pajama-like pants and sweaters of pandemic fashion, the Prada collection showed the opposite in their silhouettes. It was a change that Miuccia Prada and Raf Simons called “seduction through reduction” (so read the opening line of the show notes).

Other brands are also bringing the Mini back for Spring '22, but the co-creative directors did it Prada-style, in satin with clean lines and the duo's now signature color palette. Some of the mini skirts also came with straight, mid-length trains in the back, which gives the high-low hem a new look (and a little more coverage for those who want to go back to the mini but need more modesty). Other mini-hems came in sweet layers in pastel tones, like a candy floss pink or mint green satin shift (typical shades of Prada's Bar Luce in Milan's Fondazione Prada) with the brand's triangular logo on the chest.

All looks have been paired with the pointiest and sharpest pumps. It's an obvious predilection for Simons, as shape has slowly but surely returned to the Prada collection since the Belgian designer joined Miuccia Prada as co-creative director of the brand in 2020 (despite showing off large, chunky plateaus last season ). . The pointy pumps came in smooth patent leather and the same rich colors. They also featured the brand's triangular logo, which remains iconic among fashion enthusiasts around the world.
