Prince William Reportedly Feared for the "Future of the Monarchy" When Prince Harry Married Meghan Markle
From Marie Claire
A new royal biography sheds light on the origins of Prince William and Prince Harry's long-rumored feud.
In his upcoming book, Battle of Brothers: The Inner Story of a Family in Trouble, royal historian and biographer Robert Lacey explains the role Harry's relationship with Meghan Markle played in the breakdown of his relationship with his brother.
According to Lacey, Will focused on "the future state of his monarchy" while Harry focused on "the love of the complex and fascinating woman who had finally made sense of his life".
It's no secret to royal fans that Prince William and Prince Harry's relationship has been strained for some time at best. In his new book, Battle of Brothers: The Inner Story of a Family in Turmoil, royal historian and biographer Robert Lacey digs deep into the brothers' feud to get to their origins, which he believes have at least some roots in Harry's romance Meghan Markle.
"The fundamental conflict was between the two men, who had known each other all their lives and never hesitated to tell each other exactly what they were thinking and feeling," writes Lacey in the book, based on an excerpt published by People. "William was worried that his brother was getting on too quickly with his advertising - and he didn't hesitate to say so much when Harry started talking about getting in touch with Meghan pretty soon."
According to Lacey, a source close to the brothers said the major confrontation with Meghan "subsided sometime in late 2016 or early 2017" and that "William raised his question about the apparent concern about Meghan".
As Lacey points out, Will had a very different approach to his own marriage and waited years before asking Kate Middleton the question.
It took 'Waity William' so long, of course, to support Kate for the monarchy. He'd auditioned her for a job all these years. So Harry couldn't help but wonder if Wills was really concerned about his personal happiness - or if he was again, as usual, thinking about the makeup and fortune of 'the Firm', whose boss he would one day be ? Harry's response was a harsh and insulted blow, "writes Lacey.
Ultimately, according to Lacey, the feud was due to different priorities. For Will it was a question of the future of the monarchy while Harry focused on love.
"Here we have a few brothers who loved each other very deeply - deeply and most sincerely - but who could give as best they could when it came to a conflict over something that was very important to them," writes Lacey. "For William it was the future state of his monarchy - his sacred trust; while for Harry it was the love of the complex and captivating woman that had finally made sense of his life."
