Priyanka Chopra on the Red Carpet Dress She Hid Her Snacks in & the Surprising Thing She Does While Naked

Who loves a train more than Priyanka Chopra? No one. And no, not a dragging train - the train that follows you and may need more than two people to carry it. Chopra sat down with StyleCaster to talk about her style evolution and take a fashion throwback to the past, where she revisited some of her favorite outfits. One of them is a ball gown. And not a ball gown, but a ball gown. Chopra also revealed her favorite outfit, why she's so proud to be the face of Gloria Vanderbilt Jeans, and why you'll never see her in a bucket hat. Watch our full chat with Chopra below.
SC: Are you ready to talk about jeans? What was your first pair? Can you describe them?
PC: My first pair of jeans was, gosh, that's so hard. My mom was a big fan of blue jeans and a white shirt - it was her favorite style. Has always been. Mine too, as you can see (points to her outfit). But when I was very young, I was maybe nine or ten [when I] got my first pair of jeans. I used to wear them with sneakers. My mom used to dress me in jeans and a white shirt and then quickly realized that she shouldn't dress me in a white shirt because I was a very active 10-year-old. But I always wore my jeans with everything.

SC Did you tighten them down?
PC: Yes, earlier! I rolled them up sometimes.
SC: During the pandemic, it's funny, I heard people refer to jeans as hard pants. But jeans are back! So what's your favorite pair or style right now? I think I know because you wear it.
PC: But how do you actually know what jeans I'm wearing? (Laugh)

SC: Oh, you're right. (Chopra is actually sitting, I can't tell). Maybe you're not wearing jeans. You got me. This is a no-jeans interview. Okay, tell me about the iconic Gloria Vanderbilt jeans and why they resonate so much with you.

PC: What I love about Gloria Vanderbilt jeans...she was a founder at a time when female founders or designers were just emerging in fashion. She was so ahead of her time and thought of women first. She created jeans for women, by a woman who thought of a woman's needs. So ahead of her time, at a time when women were really fighting for their rights. When I put on my first pair of GVs, I thought, "OK, OK, these jeans definitely made a woman." Because they lace you up in all the right places. It gives you space in all the right places. It includes all sizes from plus to petite and all in the middle. I just love that there are all kinds of jeans: a classic, you have boots, you have flair, you have skinny, you have shorts. My favorite because I'm a 90's kid is a pair of flared jeans because they give me endless legs.
SC: The bootleg is coming back, I love it! I have a few of these in my closet at my parents house, I was like, "I told you I was going to need them one day!"
PC: (laughs) I love that the bootleg is coming back! The GV bootlegs are amazing.

SC: I can't wait to try them out as we're talking about some sort of flashback fashion. Are you ready to take a little trip back into your past with two pictures?
PC: Oh no. [She looks worried and covers her face]
SC: Don't be nervous. Do not be nervous. I wouldn't do that to you. OK, the first one is this. (See the dress here).
PC: (bursts out laughing when he sees her dress)
SC: OK, give me your comment on that. It seems very convenient!
PC: That's very convenient. I could itch wherever I had to and no one would see. That's what came out of doing a press tour for The White Tiger, a book tour for Unfinished, and launching my hair care line, Anomaly. Everything happened at the same time! And the pandemic happened. I was exposed to someone who had COVID on my set so I had to go under for 14 days in the UK at the time. And all those clothes that my stylist Law Roach sent me to London - this was one of them - and he loves a theme! That was because I had nothing to do, was bored, just wore different clothes and took pictures.
SC: I have to say I love it, and if you ever need to roll down a hill fast...
PC: You don't have to go down stairs, you can roll down the hill, you can roll to the toilet, it's just super convenient. I don't think people get it, it's very underrated!
SC: I'll just give you one piece of advice, if you wear it again, don't roll on the bathroom floor, don't do that.
PC: You can hide all your snacks and nobody will know.
SC: That's right. See? Functional. OK, this one. Do not be nervous.

SC: No, I'm not nervous about it. I loved this outfit. The theme this year was Comme des Garçons. I remember it was Ralph Lauren and it was my first Met. That's how it was styled by Cristina Erlich. I wanted to embody the androgynous nature of Comme des Garçons while staying true to the Ralph Lauren classic. They are known for their great trench coats, so they came up with the idea of just wearing the trench coat as a dress. And I love a big hit, as you know, Reshma. The bigger the better and the best part about this dress is that the atelier made the train detachable. It dissolved into a mini dress after the carpet ended. I've done this for every Met Gala since, detachable trains!
SC: I love that. When I first saw it I thought she was a hot inspector gadget but then you shouldn't let me do your PR.
PC: (laughs) I love Inspector Gadget!
SC: The best show, we are 90's kids! Okay, a couple of quick fire questions. If you had to describe your style development in three words, what would they be?
PC: I would say unique. I would say brave. I would say fun.
SC: Best fashion choice when you were younger?
PC: Less!
SC: Pets?
PC: Less is more.
SC: Oh less! I thought you said "pets" so that makes more sense.
PC: Recognizing pets (laughs) - Realizing that pets are more is actually very accurate. Just don't wear them.
SC: Absolutely not! Your worst fashion decision or an outfit you've worn that you regret?
PC: I don't want to throw designers under the bus. Plead the fifth on this one!
SC: Oh, that's right! You know the only designer you could probably throw under the bus is your mom, as she dressed you when you were younger -
PC: No! Do you know what it's like to live with my mom?! I won't take that risk!
SC: I just made an enemy of your mother. I take it back!
PC: You're my mother's enemy now, Reshma! Not me! I saved your honor for the moment.
SC: But you take her favorite outfit (jeans and a white shirt) and you're in the campaign for it. You're welcome, mom. I am sorry. What is your comfort outfit and the outfit you watch TV in?
PC: To be honest, my comfort outfit is less is more. I like my birthday suit very much. I feel very comfortable in it -
SC: Wait a minute! Are you actually naked?!
PC: I'm home! Don't you lie in bed naked and watch movies?
SC: Oh I didn't do that. But I should!
PC: You should! (laughs) It's very convenient!
Image: Gloria Vanderbilt Jeans.
SC: I will! What are you exaggerating?
PC: The last series I binge watched was The Dropout. I loved Amanda Seyfried, the show is so good. Now it's really interesting and fun just following the try in real life. i loved candy Candy by Jessica Biel, but I watched Love on the Spectrum. I saw the Australian version. I saw the UK version. I saw the US version. It's the best show.
SC: Amazing. Naked revelry. I think you'll make it a thing. Okay, I was just about to ask you if you would name an outfit that you like to wear at home, but I think we now know the answer to that.
PC: But most of the time when I'm around people, I just sweat. That's the first thing I do when I get home. It's very important to me when I get home from my day that I take my day off. Take off my makeup, take off my outfit. I just need to take my day off before I start decompressing and I usually step into my comfiest sweats and this is my favorite outfit –
SC: Then you turn on the TV and the sweat is gone. We're going to play Wear it or Tear it. I name fashion trends and you tell me if you're going to wear them or tear (throw) them... Bucket hats?
PC: I was just talking about that! They never suit me! I've got a big old head, so rip it off. I tried so many for my recent vacation! It looks like a cylinder to me.
SC: You're like Charlie Chaplin...
PC: That's not fair! You need to make bucket hats for larger heads.
SC: You can wear a bucket hat while naked.
PC: The bucket hat still doesn't suit me as much as you're obsessed with my naked binge!
SC: I can't stop!
PC: The bucket hat is the focus here! And it still doesn't fit my head!
SC: OK, heels!
PC: Wear them! I love her.
SC: denim on denim.
PC: Wear them.
SC: Overalls?
PC: Wear them, I love a good overall. It's only a production when you have to pee, but that's fine, I oblige.
SC: You're on my mind, I was about to ask, "But what do you do when you have to go?" You just never go, don't drink.
PC: God is just like that, take it all off and be okay with that!
SC: Are we back to the Naked Binge?
PC: But lock the bathroom door! Because you don't want anyone approaching you when you're in overalls and peeing.
SC: No, not at all! Priyanka, it was great to see you again. Tell your mother, "I'm sorry!"
PC: I will apologize to her to you Reshma.
SC: She will never find me.
PC: Bye hon, (laughs), chat soon.
