Prop gun fired by Alec Baldwin kills woman on set
Actor Alec Baldwin accidentally killed a cameraman on the set of an indie film titled "Rust" on Thursday after he fired a prop gun.
According to the authorities, he also injured the director of the film, Joel Souza.
New Mexico police confirmed in a statement: “Two people were shot dead on the set of 'Rust'. Halyna Hutchins, 42, cameraman, and Joel Souza, 48, director. "
Authorities added that Hutchins was flown by helicopter to the University of New Mexico hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
Souza was taken to another regional medical center for treatment for his injuries.
The severity of these injuries is initially unknown.
Variety reported that the fatal incident occurred at Bonanza Creek Ranch in New Mexico, a popular manufacturing location south of Santa Fe.
Security on the film set confirmed it is locked.
No charges were brought in connection with the incident, but police said they are investigating the shooting.
Baldwin's representatives did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
