Protesters in Richmond tear down another Confederate statue

RICHMOND, Virginia (AP) - Protesters in Richmond demolished another Confederate statue in the city on Tuesday evening, news agencies reported.
The Howitzers Monument near Virginia Commonwealth University's Monroe Park campus was overturned after protesters who spent the night in the rain pulled it down from the base with a rope.
According to a video from the Richmond Times Dispatch, the paint-splattered statue was seen face down on the floor as the rain continued overnight in the capital of Virginia.
It is the third Confederate statue and the fourth monument that has been demolished by protesters in Virginia since after the death of George Floyd, a black man who died after being struck by a white Minneapolis officer who pressed his Sidewalks had been pinned down, international protests had broken out, knees on Floyd's neck.
Statues of Confederate President Jefferson Davis and Confederate General Williams Carter Wickham and Christopher Columbus have been toppled by protesters in the past few weeks.
The Richmond protesters began their march on Tuesday evening, calling for the removal of all Confederate statues, the establishment of a civilian police review committee, and police defusion, among other things, the Richmond Times dispatch reported.
Before the fall, the Howitzers Monument showed a Confederate artillery man standing in front of a weapon. It was built in 1892 to commemorate the city's civil war artillery unit, according to the Encyclopedia of Virginia.
