RaeLynn Is Pregnant! Country Singer Expecting First Baby, a Daughter: 'The Best Birthday Present'

RaeLynn's family is growing!
The country singer is pregnant and is expecting her first child with husband Josh Davis. She reveals exclusively with PEOPLE that the couple, who married in 2016, "thought more about the important things in life over the past year - and that for us." our family grows. "
It will be a daughter for the Voice alum expected in September. "I sure thought I had a boy - I don't know why; I just did it. Josh felt like he was a girl all the time, so he was definitely right. I didn't care."
"I should have known with my debut song 'God Made Girls' that God would give me a girl first!" she jokes.

Why is RaeLynn making the announcement on her 27th birthday Tuesday after finding out she was expecting in January? "Every year is special in its own way, but what will make my 27th year on this earth so special is that I can be a mom to a beautiful little girl," she says. "That's why I wanted to wait, because it's the best birthday present!"

The singer-songwriter also wanted to make sure she could keep an eye on her type 1 diabetes, which she was diagnosed with as a child, while she was pregnant.

"The biggest concern I had was treating my diabetes while carrying a baby," she explains. "I was very fortunate to have a great care team that put me on the best regimen. My diabetes and A1C have never been better than now."

RaeLynn says she and Davis, who are in the Army, have already decided on a name for their little girl - but they are keeping the nickname under wraps for now. "We agreed on this pretty quickly because it was just too perfect not to do it," she says.
The star, who is actively working on new music, the follow-up to her Baytown EP with the first song due out this summer, says she plans to base her parenting on her faith.
"We're not experts, of course, but our beliefs were so important to us for our marriage and upbringing," says the mother-to-be. "So how we raise her is going to focus on her beliefs and her self-esteem and confidence. Social media is a scary place, and I just want her to always be confident about who she is and not compare herself."

RaeLynn says she has "a lot of great women and mothers around me who have been so helpful so far" - even some other country moms!
"Katelyn [Brown] was the first girlfriend I told outside of my family and she cried with me because it was a dream for me to be a mom for a while," says RaeLynn. "She was such a light to me during the process. She and Summer Pardi have become some of my rocks this quarantine year. I told Maren [Morris] and she was so excited! I was honestly lucky enough to have done this . " Lots of great women - Lauren Lane, Brittany Aldean, and Hayley Hubbard - help me with tips on what I really need. I am a pretty happy girl. "
