Rafael Nadal Just Wore a $1 Million Richard Mille Watch on Court at the French Open
Rafael Nadal plays the watch game at this year's French Open. The 34-year-old professional tennis player, who wiped out Italian Jannik Sinner in straight sentences last Tuesday, wore a Richard Mille watch worth $ 1 million throughout the tennis tournament.
The candy for the wrist in question was made by the famous Swiss watch brand on the occasion of the 10th anniversary of a fruitful collaboration for the King of Clay. Known as the RM 27-04, the Tourbillion weighs only 30 grams and is still tough enough to withstand the grueling game on the court. In fact, the watch's floating tourbillon caliber can withstand accelerations of more than 12,000 g (or Rafa's blistered forehand) and is a new record for the brand.
As can be expected, the watch is based on the Spaniard's design. The watchmaker secured the inner workings like you would string a tennis racket. A special wafer-thin steel cable was woven together to form a mesh structure, to which the skeletonized craft (with 19 stones and a power reserve of 38 hours) was attached. These strings are designed to limit excessive friction and impact during a game of tennis. It also makes for an eye-catching visual feature and adds to the sporty aesthetic.
In addition, the robust housing is made of "TitaCarb", which is available exclusively from Richard Mille. This high-performance polyamide material is reinforced with a carbon fiber content of 38.5 percent, making it one of the strongest of its kind.
Not to mention it can bring good luck too. While he is wearing the watch, the current World No. 2 and 12-time French Open winner has fought his way to the top of the tournament and will meet Argentinian Diego Schwartzman in the semi-finals tomorrow (Friday, October 9th). Have a good trip, Rafa.
Only 50 RM 27-04 timepieces were made and are available exclusively in Richard Mille boutiques worldwide for $ 1,050,000.
