Ilhan Omar wants to implement a plan to help families stay afloat in these turbulent economic times. Omar, the Democratic representative of Minnesota, will launch an income plan that will distribute $ 1,200 monthly checks to families in the United States, according to the Huffington Post.
Even if it sounds exciting, it won't happen any time soon. With the support of Reps Dwight Evans, Cori Bush, Jamaal Bowman and Pramila Jayapal, Omar plans to create a $ 2.5 billion grant fund to run a pilot program from 2023 to 2027 that will see hundreds of monthly checks broadcast to different parishes. The results of the pilot program will be used to launch the national program, which will start in 2028. Once the program kicks off in 2028, it will send $ 1,200 to adults earning up to $ 75,000 a year and heads of households who cash in $ 112,500 per year. An additional $ 600 is sent for each child in the household. Undocumented immigrants are also entitled to this income program.
If you don't have a bank account, you won't miss out. The SUPPORT Act will help set up a banking system that uses the postal service so that they can receive checks in the mail.
Omar's hope is that laws like the SUPPORT Act will help families meet all of their needs.
"Poverty is a choice," said MP Omar in a statement. “For too long we have prioritized endless growth while millions are homeless, hungry, or without health care. We as a nation have the opportunity to ensure that everyone has met their basic needs such as food, housing and health care. "
As Omar enacts laws that guarantee aid to families in financial need, the Biden government is not quite ready to send out a fourth round of economic reviews. Legislators are pushing for monthly stimulus checks to be issued by the end of the pandemic, while others recommend fourth and fifth payment rounds. Despite the suggestions, nothing was implemented.
