Georgia Republican MP Marjorie Taylor Greene approached Democrats on the steps of the House of Representatives about their support for abortions, which eventually led to a screaming battle between the Congresswoman and Michigan MP Debbie Dingell.
The exchange began when Greene resigned from the House of Representatives following the passage of the Women's Health Protection Act, which would legalize Roe v Wade and ensure access to abortions regardless of future Supreme Court rulings. The bill is unlikely to get the 60 votes required to pass the Senate.
"The border is wide open," Greene shouted to a group of Democratic Congressmen including Dingell and MPs Melanie Stansbury from New Mexico, Ilhan Omar from Minnesota and Chrissy Houlahan from Pennsylvania. The congressmen then moved back in.
Greene then walked down the steps to a meeting of Democratic lawmakers who had gathered for a “Build Back Better for Women” photo op where she was confronted with a woman who had lined up with members on the steps.
"Congresswoman, I wish you would stand by the side of women," the woman said, causing a violent reaction from Greene.
“Stand on the side of women? I do! Green replied. "Do you know that there are unborn women, don't they have a right to life?"
Further down the steps, Greene stood by the side of the Democratic congressmen and started yelling at them too. "Horrible. You should all be ashamed of yourself!" Greene yelled at the members before turning away.
"You should be ashamed of your rudeness," replied Dingell, who was standing on the stairs again.
"You know what? Killing a baby to birth is a lack of courtesy, it's called murder, ”Green called back. She continued, "Hey, what about the border down there? Lack of courtesy, how about a lack of laws?"
"We have many laws to obey, and you should practice the basics you are taught in the Church: respect your neighbor," Dingell yelled back.
"Taught in church, are you kidding? Try to be Christian and support life!" Green replied.
"You are trying to be a Christian and you are trying to treat your co-workers properly," said Dingell, stumbling briefly on the steps in anger.
"Take care of your step, lady, you will fall," replied Green. "Control yourself."
