Report: Bradley Beal opting out of Wizards contract

Wizards star Bradley Beal said he's already made up his mind about his future as a player.
Although he didn't specifically reveal his plan, it apparently included the rejection of his $36,422,136 player option.
Michael Scotto from HoopsHype:
Washington Wizards star Bradley Beal will turn down his $36.4 million player option for the 2022-23 season and enter the unrestricted free hand this summer, a league source told HoopsHype.
That's simple math. Beal's projected maximum free agent salary: $43 million. That's significantly less than his player option salary of $36,422,136.

Even if Beal wants to stay in Washington on a one-year contract, it's better to opt out and re-sign for a raise.
Of course, Beal can secure a multi-year payday from that $43 million starting salary -- up to a projected $248 million over five years with the Wizards, or $235 million over four years elsewhere.
Beal has said repeatedly that he tends to stay with the Wizards. Although he has left the door open to go, publicly announcing before the free hand even opens that he knows his plan, then it would be a shocking about-face. Most signs point to Beal staying in Washington.
That will simply happen with a higher salary for 2022-23 after the exit.
