Report: Chiefs QB coach Mike Kafka ‘drawing interest’ as prospective head coach

The Kansas City Chiefs are at the height of success in the NFL and could lose a number of assistant coaches by the end of the year. If you have a successful team, the coaching team will be pillaged by another team trying to replicate that success. This is how the cookie crumbles in the NFL.
The Chief's offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy has been a hot name on the carousel for head coaches for the past three seasons, but a new report says another assistant could also appear as a candidate for a head coach job in 2021. Head of QB trainer Mike Kafka is a "sought-after" candidate and is expected to conduct an interview for vacancies as head coach.
Kafka, who played QB with the Eagles for Andy Reid, joined the Chiefs' coaching staff in 2017 as an offensive quality control coach. He worked his way up and became one of the most respected QB coaches in the league after coaching Patrick Mahomes to such success early in his career.
Prior to the 2020 season, the Philadelphia Eagles were reportedly interested in interviewing Kafka about her position as offensive coordinator. Reid closed that and instead promoted Kafka, which in addition to being a QB coach, earned him the title of passing game coordinator. Unfortunately, there aren't too many titles that could deter Kafka from a head coaching gig.
Of course there are only so many jobs that will be available. Currently, the Detroit Lions, Atlanta Falcons, and Houston Texans jobs are the only ones available with many qualified candidates across the league. It's always possible that if Bieniemy gets a head coach job somewhere, Kafka will stay in Kansas City and be promoted to offensive coordinator. He could go in the same role with Bieniemy too. Even if he has to wait for an opportunity, it seems like Kafka is being prepared to become head coach in the future.
