video transcript
NICK BROMBERG: Hugh Freeze's rumored return to the SEC in Auburn is a second chance for the controversial coach to prove he can thrive at one of college football's finest conferences. Freeze has spent the last four seasons at Liberty, where the Flames have won at least eight games in each of those seasons. He joined Liberty in 2019 after spending two seasons outside of college football following his retirement from Ole Miss in the summer of 2017. While the calls to escort services from his Ole Miss phone were the most scandalous realization of Freeze's resignation, that he was attempting to blame his predecessor for NCAA violations while speaking to recruits was more damning. Many players took Freeze's comments to them in their transfer waivers after his retirement. Even if you think Freeze deserves a second chance in the SEC, there's no denying the Tigers need immediate success. Auburn fired Bryan Harsin after less than two seasons with the school, and the Tigers hired him after firing Gus Malzahn. Malzahn never had a losing season in his eight seasons at Auburn. Patience will not be an unlimited supply in the levels.
