Report: Oscar De La Hoya returning to ring to fight former UFC champ Vitor Belfort

Oscar De La Hoya will compete in the boxing ring for the first time in nearly 13 years against former UFC champion Vitor Belfort this summer, The Athletic's Mike Coppinger reported.
The game is scheduled for September 18 in 12-ounce gloves and is "likely" to take place in Las Vegas, according to the report. It is said to be part of a trill exhibition event.
De La Hoya, 48, last faced Manny Pacquiao in December 2008. Four months later, he announced his resignation. Last March, he said he planned to fight again and said he would do it at a Triller Fight Club event on July 3rd. At the time, he considered Floyd Mayweather to be his opponent. It would be a replay of the 2007 split decision win for Mayweather.
De La Hoya said late last year he was planning to return. He has passed his retirement as one of the greatest promoters of boxing.
Belfort, 44, last fought in the UFC in May 2018 and lost to Lyoto Machida. He said last month that he was interested in fighting the boxing superstar and won the only boxing match he participated in with a KO against Josemario Neves in April 2006.
UFC President Dana White had previously ditched the idea that a current UFC fighter on Triller's July 3 card would face De La Hoya.
