Ron DeSantis holds big lead over Charlie Crist for Florida governor, new poll shows

TALLAHASSEE — Gov. Ron DeSantis has a double-digit lead over Democratic opponent Charlie Crist, with Republicans poised to cleanse the state's cabinet offices next month, a new poll shows.
DeSantis leads Crist by 11 percentage points, not only gaining overwhelming support among Republican voters but also proving to be the favorite of most of Florida's always critical, non-partisan voters, Mason-Dixon Polling & Strategy found.
DeSantis has a 52% to 41% lead over Crist with only a 6% tie. Among voters who are not registered with either party, the Republican governor leads by 52 to 39 percent, according to the poll.
The Mason-Dixon results for DeSantis are better than other recent polls in the gubernatorial race. Real Clear Politics, which tracks polls, shows DeSantis an average lead of 5.4 points over Crist in all polls.
DeSantis, who is seeking a second term on Nov. 8, appears to be backed by a strong approval rating. The poll found that 55% of Floridians approve of his job performance and 42% dislike him.

Mason-Dixon pointed out that voters were asked about the race Sept. 26-28 before the full effects of Hurricane Ian were felt in the state. The storm will clearly test DeSantis' leadership along with Floridians' view of the governor.
The telephone poll of 800 registered Florida voters has a plus-minus margin of error of 3.5%.
Republican Gov. Ron DeSantis has a double-digit lead over Democrat Charlie Crist in a new poll.
DeSantis has raised more than seven times Crist's war chest
DeSantis, with a national profile and considered a potential White House contender in two years, has raised more than $187 million, according to campaign tracking site OpenSecrets. Crist, on the other hand, is being provided with $24 million - with obvious differences in the levels of TV and social media spending between the two camps.
DeSantis has evolved into a virtually uninterrupted media presence, though both sides have scaled back campaigning in the face of the devastation caused by last week's hurricane.
Crist, a Democratic congressman from St. Petersburg since 2016 and a former Republican governor of Florida, is running for statehood for the seventh time.
