Russian airlines staff start to receive conscription notices -Kommersant

(Reuters) - Russian employees at airlines and airports have started receiving draft notices after President Vladimir Putin ordered a partial military mobilization, the Kommersant newspaper reported on Friday, citing sources.
Employees from at least five airlines, including Russia's top carrier Aeroflot, and employees from more than 10 airports received notifications within a day after Putin ordered the mobilization, the newspaper reported.
According to sources at three companies, 50-80% of staff could potentially be drafted, with a source close to Aeroflot saying over half of staff at three of the group's airlines could potentially be drafted, Kommersant said.
Aeroflot declined to comment.
Most airline pilots are reserve officers trained in military departments of flight schools, or private individuals who have completed military service.
At least five companies have started drafting and two have already sent out lists of employees to be exempted from the draft, as the exemption is vital not only for pilots and air traffic controllers but also for technical, commercial and IT specialists, Kommersant said.
Putin on Wednesday ordered Russia's first mobilization since World War II and backed a plan to annex parts of Ukraine, prompting some Russians of draft age to leave the country.
Around 300,000 reservists would be called up, said Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu on Wednesday, they were specialists with combat experience.
All Russian men between the ages of 18 and 27 are required to serve a year in the military, although university students may instead receive tuition from a military faculty alongside their chosen degree.
