Sean Payton trolls Alvin Kamara as Taysom Hill scores rushing TD
The Saints who ran back Alvin Kamara already enjoyed a historic day against the Vikings with five quick touchdowns on Christmas Day. Kamara was on the brink of even more with 4:03 in the game. Had he met again while fleeing the one-yard line in Minnesota, he would have joined Ernie Nevers in 1929, Dub Jones in 1951, and Gale Sayers in 1965. He was the only player with six touchdowns in a game and the only player in NFL history with six quick touchdowns in a single game in modern times - Nevers did it a long time ago, too.
Instead, head coach Sean Payton put backup quarterback / running back / tight end Taysom Hill on, and a 1-yard Hill touchdown run was the result.
Not to denigrate Hill's efforts, but what the hell was Payton thinking? Kamara had been shooting through Minnesota's stacked boxes all day, he could have set a record that could never be broken, and that's exactly what happens. It will be interesting to see Payton explain himself in the post-game press conference. It was an odd call unless Kamara was hurt or worn out from all of those previous touchdowns.
