Seth Rogen Is Facing Backlash After "Downplaying" YouTuber Casey Neistat's Experience With Car Theft

Seth Rogen is still facing backlash over his reaction to a YouTuber's experience of car theft earlier this week. Days after commenting on the break-in, Seth's name continued to trend on Twitter as users exclaimed the actor's flashy privilege.

For those who are not yet privy to the details of this social media exchange, this is what happened: Casey Neistat, who once ran a YouTube channel of the same name that had great success on the platform, tweeted it to followers on Wednesday to inform that "his family's cars" were robbed somewhere in Los Angeles. People now say Seth downplayed the anecdote in his answer.

"Dude, I've lived here for over 20 years. You're crazy, haha," Seth wrote. "It's nice here. Don't leave anything valuable in the car. It's called big city life."
Casey didn't take Seth's answer seriously. The YouTuber said he was angry and "hurt" before explaining that decorations for his young daughter's birthday party were originally stolen from the vehicle.
It's definitely worth noting that while burglaries are serious and - depending on the severity and financial position of the subject - potentially devastating, the language Casey uses in his tweet doesn't resonate with everyone.
Commented writer Roxane Gay, "Third world shithole full of crime? Because your car was broken into? Be angry, sure. It sucks to be robbed. But come on.

Others felt it was Seth whose comments were misplaced. "Seth is right. It's not a big deal," wrote one user. "Just let the valet drop off your other car and text your assistant to find out the first car."
"Imagine if you weren't rich and someone broke into your car," added another. "Then imagine celebrities saying it's no big deal."
Seth seemed unimpressed by the internet criticism. "A lot of people come up to me and talk shit on Twitter in the hope that I will engage and pay attention to them publicly, but instead I send them a DM and tell them to fuck each other privately," he later tweeted . "It's a lot more fun."

Casey and Seth's argument has been going on amid rising car thefts across LA since the pandemic began last year. Two months ago, Police Chief Michael Moore said the number of incidents had increased by nearly 50% in 2021 compared to 2019, according to FOX-11.
