Shailene Woodley Buys Midcentury-Modern Los Angeles Home for $4.4 Million

Shailene Woodley is the new owner of a home in Beachwood Canyon that she bought for $4.4 million in a quiet off-market deal. Built in the late 1950s by Kazumi Adachi, this mid-century modern pad fits Los Angeles' cultural DNA perfectly, thanks to stunning glass walls, iconic modernist details, and large, unobstructed views of the iconic Hollywood sign. The classic dwelling is often referred to as the Rifkin Residence after its first owners, Mr. and Mrs. Lou Rifkin.
The house offers a lot of privacy and is completely invisible from the street thanks to gates and a cluster of trees and greenery. It is a one story home of approximately 3,500 square feet, with four bedrooms and three and a half bathrooms plus a room that serves as an office. Concrete floors are found throughout, and bathrooms have tile and imported marble.

A butterfly roofline adds character to the exterior and preserves the structure's original atmosphere, which was created by Adachi. The home also features full length Fleetwood glass slides, a separate studio and a kidney shaped pool. According to Dirt, the property underwent an extensive remodeling in the mid-1990s, led by architect Josh Schweitzer. The photogenic house has reportedly been used in dozens of editorial shoots for Vogue, GQ and Marie Claire.
Woodley gained attention as a teenager by starring on the ABC family show The Secret Life of the American Teenager. More recently she has starred in a handful of hit TV shows and films such as The Fault in Our Stars, Big Little Lies and The Divergent Series.
