‘Sins of the Amish’ Reveals Bombshell Allegations of Cyclical Rape, Incest, and Physical Abuse

There is little to no reporting of the horrors happening to Amish communities. Go to the Amish Wikipedia page and you will find detailed descriptions of the founding of the religion, the various factions that fall under the title, their dress and diet. But you won't find a single "controversy" or "sexual abuse scandal" tab on the site — nor any mention of pedophilia, rape, or incestuous relationships.
Aside from a handful of articles from years ago, the Amish and Mennonites have managed to sweep under the rug most of the darkest stories surrounding their communities.

When we think of Amish TV shows, we think of Breaking Amish, a reality show about Amish people who leave their sheltered communities and happily travel to New York to experience big city debauchery. That is, until now, with the publication of Peacock's Sins of the Amish, which aims to destroy any original image of Amish and Mennonite religions that may still exist.
The series follows four women from diverse Amish backgrounds. Some are very conservative and don't even use electricity, others featured their Amish family photo shoots. Sins of the Amish works to uncover patterns of sexual and physical abuse, as well as a handful of incestuous relationships. By far the most devastating piece of the puzzle is the way some Amish leaders brainwash their youth into believing that nightmares like rape and incest are not only normal, but always the girl's fault. While unpacking some of her old Amish materials, Mary discovers one of her old sex education pamphlets called To the Girl of Eleven, one of the few sources of information she had.
“This sexual urge, once aroused and active in a young boy through puberty and beyond, can become a powerful inner drive. Any decent girl will do her best to help him and not make it any harder for him. Even in your own home, if you have teenage brothers, you should be aware of that,” she reads. “Your brother, approaching you innocently and seeing your partially uncovered body, can suddenly awaken strong sexual desires in him. His intentions were not bad, but suddenly he finds himself in the lust of his own body, the victim of your neglect.”
The booklet also encourages young girls not to show up in skimpy nightgowns or climb ladders around their male family members, to keep their clothes closed and to close their door at night lest their brothers be inclined to harass their sisters if they are with them see her half naked in bed.
However, a closed door did not prevent Mary's brother from raping her in the middle of the night. She says she ran to her room earlier before he could catch up to her, but locking the door wasn't enough.
"He took the hinges off," Mary recalls through tears. "I remember he grabbed me and then I remember splitting into two people straight away. As if I wasn't there at all. When I came back the door closed and he was gone.”
