Sixers star Ben Simmons puts up shots with Dwight Howard after win
The Philadelphia 76ers saw a 113-107 win over the Washington Wizards on Wednesday to start the season, but it wasn't pretty. The team had to pull out and win after a dismal third quarter as it needed some heroic effort from Joel Embiid to get the job done.
A game like this could be cause for concern that the Sixers had only absolute problems after half-time. That was an achievement the starting unit shouldn't be proud of as they scored 24:15 in the third game before rallying behind Embiid.
After the last buzzer, Ben Simmons went back down on the floor and did extra work. He finished 7v12 with 16 points, nine rebounds, and seven assists, but felt he needed more work while being assisted by Dwight Howard.
"Something I have to do," said Simmons. "Get back on the floor, Dwight was pushing me to get better so he came down on the floor with me now. Took some pictures. He's just pushing me. He wants me to be great and I know it really appreciate. "
Howard continues to be a solid veteran for this team, and he was the type of guy who looks like he's watching both Simmons and Embiid so they can improve. Given the career Howard has made, this is something Simmons applauds.
"I have a lot of respect for him, especially when it comes to his career," added Simmons. "He's someone I know came into this organization to push me, and he believes in me, to have that and let someone do that. You feel good, you do work, you get hungry and had that great. "
The Sixers will now turn their attention to the New York Knicks on Saturday.
