Thanks to a reader's tip, we discovered a stolen Chevy Impala SS that was staging a bloody chase with the police!
We all love a good chase - we don't advertise it, but when it happens we stop and watch the video on YouTube. Of course, in today's world of fire-breathing hellcats and drag-strip dominators, it's pretty easy to say that our generation has the greatest chance of seeing some crazy police-hunting gadgets. However, we often like to forget that Dodge and the aforementioned Hellcat name didn't invent the concept of the fast car. This is best illustrated by today's example of how a 17-year-old runaway from California managed to hold off several police officers in a fast-paced chase that would rock even the most seasoned reporters and cops alike.
The vehicle in question appears to be a Chevrolet Impala SS, which was most likely made between the 1994 and 1996 production years. This would mean the second generation Chevy LT1 should sit under the hood, most likely with a 2-bolt head, as only the Corvettes of the time came with the 4-bolt. This cold blooded American V8 was capable of putting out over 300 horsepower and 330 ft / lbs of torque. While 300 horsepower wasn't a problem, the question arises as to how the driver managed to reach speeds in excess of 250 mph, dodge a team of trained police hunters and a helicopter.
This chase lasted over 30 minutes without a single mistake by the driver. Unfortunately, this vicious vehicle couldn't keep moving forever and the cops were able to stop the Impala with two separate "stop strips". It should be said that this was a stolen car and we do not condone any form of theft, especially from vehicles. However, the driver has demonstrated intense skill, this is further driven by the knowledge that the chase was almost 20 years ago. and were glad that no one was harmed.
