Sources: Auburn closing in on hiring Boise State's Bryan Harsin as next football coach

Auburn is close to hiring Boise State's Bryan Harsin as the next head coach, according to multiple sources.
Harsin set a record of 69-19 during his tenure at Boise State, and earned over 78% of the profits in his seven seasons. Harsin is a well-known offensive coach and developer of quarterbacks who has long been considered one of the best offensive minds on the West Coast.
The hiring is the result of a search that was limited to three different candidates that the school seriously considered - Harsin, Louisiana's Billy Napier, and Clemson Defense Coordinator Brent Venables. The timing of the hiring was influenced as all three coaches were supposed to play on the championship weekend.
After Auburn sacked coach Gus Malzahn last week, a flurry of rumors and feedback began around the university. Auburn officials point to Harsin's hiring as the culmination of a thorough search by Sporting Director Allen Greene that included the use of Parker Executive Search.
"There was a lot of speculation, but it was a professional search," said a source familiar with the search. "The process has been managed in a way that meets industry standards."
One of the things Auburn officials brought up was Harsin's competitiveness as the school recognizes the challenge of competition in SEC West. Harsin hails from the Chris Petersen tree in the state of Boise, who is known for his high integrity and ability to bond with players.
In addition to high-flying criminal offenses, it was appealing to Auburn officials that Boise State has traditionally made a point of dominating both lines.
Harsin leaves Boise State at a time of turmoil. The school has undergone a change of president in the past 18 months, has no full-time sports director, and recent documents have surfaced showing the school's interest in a league change.
