Special teams coach behind epic onside kick fail vs. Cowboys is now part of Falcons' purge

It took a few weeks, but Ben Kotwica finally fell for the Atlanta Falcons' terrible onside kick mistake against the Dallas Cowboys.
After the Falcons parted ways with trainer Dan Quinn and General Manager Thomas Dimitroff on Sunday evening, they dismissed the coordinator of the special teams on Monday.
Kotwica was with the organization in his sophomore season after serving with the Washington Football Team for five years. His release was one of several organizational steps the team took on Monday.

The Falcons had an almost assured victory in Week 2 at the AT&T Stadium. All they had to do was win back an onside kick attempt and then run the clock to beat the cowboys.
But that's not how things ended.
After recovering from a 20-point hole, Dallas recovered an onside kick after dripping past five different Falcons players in the final seconds, all of whom just saw the ball go by. They later kicked a field goal to score the 40:39 victory. It was one of the craziest endings in a regular season game in recent history.
Although Quinn later tried to defend the play - his explanation didn't really match - not many people bought it. Even team owner Arthur Blank said his players "clearly" did not understand the rules in the situation.
“In the last game of yesterday's game, our players clearly did not do what they were directed to and they did not understand, or in my opinion they did not understand. They did not understand the rules exactly and what they were supposed to do had to do, ”said Blank last month. "I think this will be demonstrated when you watch the video."
While many people are responsible for this and the rest of the Falcons' failures, it's easy to see why Kotwica is the last purge in Atlanta this week.
