Sports Illustrated Swimsuit debuts its first photos of a model showing her C-section scar
For the first time in the magazine's 58-year history, Sports Illustrated's swimsuit issue will feature a model showing off his cesarean scar.

It also aims to authentically show the beauty of motherhood and help women who have had a cesarean feel proud while additionally normalizing conversations about all postpartum recoveries and bodies.
The featured model, Kelly Hughes, is a cesarean mom who has previously worked with the brand.

Dedicated to supporting women in their physical transformation into motherhood, Hirschhorn's brand Frida Mom recently launched C-Section Recovery, a unique line of products designed to enhance the mother's recovery experience improve after surgery.
Frida Mom has encountered obstacles trying to spread her messages, including in 2020 when the brand said her Oscar advert wasn't accepted by ABC or the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences to run during the show to run, which is broadcast on the network. due to the Academy's policy of "being too graphic with partial nudity and product demonstration".
The magazine and Frida Mom are also collaborating as part of SI Swimsuit's Pay With Change initiative to positively change the mainstream cultural narratives associated with women's bodies — particularly moms who have had caesarean sections have delivered.
"Joining Sports Illustrated as the first official Pay With Change brand partner is a perfect fit for Frida Mom because they have a valuable platform to disrupt the traditional narrative about women's bodies—especially those who are mothers," says Hirschhorn, a mother of four, said in a statement.
"We're thrilled that Sports Illustrated Swimsuit recognizes the importance of authentically highlighting these women — cesarean scars and everything else — and applaud the progress we'll be making together as a result of this shared commitment," she added.
GMA previously reported that a cesarean section is a surgical procedure performed to deliver a baby through the birthing person's abdomen rather than the vagina. According to the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, it's a procedure that can be planned in some cases and is more likely to be done in emergencies when labor isn't progressing or when the health of the mother or baby is at risk (ACOG ).
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, more than a million children are born by cesarean section.
