St. Louis-area mom, 2 children killed; baby taken, but safe

ST. LOUIS (AP) - A St. Louis area man fatally shot and killed his estranged wife and two of their children before escaping with the couple's baby, who was later brought to safety, and killed himself hours later on Friday as an officer approached him. Authorities said.
The murders occurred late Thursday in northern St. Louis County, St. Louis County police spokeswoman Tracy Panus said. Police identified the victims on Friday as Roseann McCulley, 34, her 13-year-old son Kayden Johnson and their 6-year-old daughter Kaylee Brooks.
Officers responding to a shooting report found all three dead at the scene. Police also learned that a 1-year-old girl had been captured - Roseann McCulley's daughter and the alleged gunman, 35-year-old Bobby McCulley III.

Court records show that Bobby McCulley III filed for divorce on February 28th. The two children killed were not his birth children, the police said
Lt. Col. Steve Sack said at a press conference that officials had been called home the Thursday before when a neighbor reported a suspicious person between two houses. Sack said the officers found no one and left.
Police now believe McCulley entered the house with a gun and held the family against their will for hours before killing them and leaving with the baby. Police returned after a neighbor reported hearing gunshots.
Police also said they looked for McCulley Thursday after Roseann McCulley told them he recently molested her.
An Amber Alert was issued and the baby was taken to safety with relatives just before 5 a.m. Friday. The Missouri State Highway Patrol tweeted that the 1-year-old was rushed to hospital as a precaution.
In the meantime, police started a manhunt for McCulley, who had been charged with three cases of first degree murder on a general warrant. Police said officers were approaching McCulley when he fatally shot himself in the city of St. Louis.
Authorities also announced Friday that 55-year-old Michelle Clayton was charged with a crime-related crime. A probable cause statement said Clayton had "misled and lied to the police in order to prevent the arrest of Bobby McCulley".
