Star Trek Vet Kate Mulgrew to Resurrect Janeway for Nickelodeon’s Animated Prodigy Series — Watch

Captain Janeway gets brave ... overseeing a couple of unruly teenagers.
Kate Mulgrew will repeat her iconic Star Trek: Voyager role in Nickelodeon's upcoming CG-animated offshoot Star Trek: Prodigy. The news was spread via a virtual panel at New York Comic Con on Thursday (see the video of the announcement above).
Star Trek: Prodigy, developed by brothers Kevin and Dan Hageman, the minds behind Trollhunters and Ninjago, and premiering at Kiddie Cabler in 2021, follows a group of lawless teenagers who discover a derelict Starfleet ship in search of adventure. Meaning and redemption.
"When [executive producer] Alex Kurtzman called me over a year ago to propose this idea, I have to tell you first that I was a little unsure," Mulgrew admitted during the NYCC panel. “After all, I played them in four and a half inch heels for seven years. I've invested every scintilla of my being in this woman. And I thought, 'An animated version of Janeway? I dont know. "But when I spoke to Kurtzman on the phone, long dormant yearnings rose to restore her, and I thought," That could be heaven. "
"I was the first female captain," continued the veterinarian Orange Is the New Black. "And now I'll be the first child captain. What could be better than that?"
Kurtzman added, “Captain Janeway had a different standard than her predecessors. She was asked to embody an inhuman level of perfection to be accepted as "good enough" by the doubters, but showed them all what it means to be truly outstanding. We can't think of a better captain to inspire the next generation of dreamers on Nickelodeon than her. "
