‘Stranger Things’ Season Five Episodes Will Be Shorter Than Season Four, Duffer Brothers Say

Season 4 of Stranger Things was big in size, scope, budget and episode length. In addition, the series included the addition of the Kate Bush song Running Up That Hill, which was repopulated by the show. With season five being the last before the show ends, fans are excited to see how this will pan out. Creators and showrunners Ross and Matt Duffer spoke to the Happy Sad Confused podcast to explain that most episodes won't be as long as last season.
"The only reason we're not expecting that long is because this season, if you watch it, it's almost two hours before our kids are really drawn into a supernatural mystery. You get to know them, you see them in their lives, they struggle to adjust to high school and so on, Steve is trying to find a date, all of that. None of that is obviously going to happen [in Season 5],” Matt said duffer “Consider, however, that the series finale is as long as a feature film. "We're going to do more of what we did here, which is just have a 2.5-hour episode."

One thing fans can expect is that the characters will pick up right where they left off and be ready to take off. "The characters will already be in action, they'll already have a purpose and a drive, and I think that'll shave at least a few hours and make this season feel really different," continued Matt Duffer. "I'm sure the synopsis will take a lot longer, it'll be 'Return of the King'-ish with about eight endings."
The Duffer brothers clarified Max's (Sadie Sink) fate after she was in a coma, and Eleven (Millie Bobby Brown) couldn't see her in the void. Max is alive, but "brain dead, blind and all her bones are broken," the brothers said.
