Former survival candidate Jonny Fairplay was arrested along with his mother Patsy Hall for theft.
According to the arrest information report, Fairplay (née Jon Dalton), 46, and Hall, 67, were taken into police custody in Danville, Virginia on December 18. Under a TMZ arrest warrant, Fairplay allegedly stole furniture (including a bar stool, leather armchair, and side table) and a $ 5,000 silver necklace from his grandmother Jean Cook's home without consent, while Hall is accused of being mentally abusive and Taking advantage of Cook's dementia. The criminal complaint was reportedly filed by Fairplay's aunt.
Fair play declined to comment on EW.
Fair Play is best known for its first appearance in the CBS Reality Competition series - 2003 on Survivor: Pearl Islands - for staging what host Jeff Probst called "the biggest lie Survivor has ever told". During the "loved ones" visit, fair play had a friend pretend to spread the news that his grandmother had died in order to get sympathy from the other competitors and win the reward. In a one-on-one interview, he immediately revealed that his grandmother was indeed alive and "sat at home watching Jerry Springer" - the same grandmother mentioned on the warrant.
"The 'Dead Grandma' lie is still considered one of the biggest steps in the history of not just Survivor, but reality television as a whole," Fairplay recently told EW. “I wanted to bring an external element to the game and create the first reality villain. There were 'bad guys' before me on reality TV, but they never looked for that personification. They claimed they cut poorly or told stories creatively . I hugged. " the role and reveled in it. "
Fair play eventually finished third that season and later returned to Survivor for Micronesia, where he asked his tribe to vote him out first so he could return to his pregnant girlfriend. He then made a career in professional wrestling.
