Sushant Singh Rajput: Bollywood actor's death fuels mental health debate

Sushant Singh Rajput's death met with grief
Bollywood actor Sushant Singh Rajput's death on Sunday sparked new discussions about mental health.
The 34-year-old actor was found dead in his house in Mumbai, which appeared to be a suicide case, police say.
The news was grieved by fans and other Bollywood stars, and the conversation soon turned to mental health and depression.
Actress Deepika Padukone, who spoke openly about the fight against depression, said it was important to report.
"Speak. Communicate. Express. Seek help," she wrote on her Instagram account. "Remember, you are not alone. We are there together. And above all, there is hope."
Anushka Sharma, who starred in the film PK with Singh, wrote: "I am so sad and upset that we have lived in an environment that could not help you with problems that you may have had."
Many others spoke about how difficult it is to talk about mental health problems in India due to a lack of understanding and taboos on the subject.
"The talk about mental health in India is miles from where it should be. Many people who mourn the death of Sushant today, giggle and clap when someone they know sees shrinkage," Rahul Sabharwal tweeted, City editor of The Indian Express newspaper.
Another social media user, Noreen Wozar, said: "Mental health really has to be a higher priority in Indian households than taboo. If you are depressed, you just have to get over the mentality."

Dr. However, Soumitra Pathare, director of the Center for Mental Health Law and Policy, told the BBC that while talking about depression and suicide was important, he warned against merging the two, especially in one country like India.
"Research data shows that about 80% of suicides in the UK and Europe are due to depression, but data from countries like India show that there are many other reasons why someone will commit suicide," he said, adding that The demography means suicide in the country was also very different.
"For example, suicide is the leading cause of death in younger women. Many are impulsive and we have found that domestic violence is a major cause. Exam pressure is also a major cause in children under the age of 18, and of course there are economic causes like those that add to it cause farmers in rural India to lose their lives, "he said.
Rajput is known for both his television and film acting, and perhaps best known for MS Dhoni: The Untold Story, where he played the legendary cricketer.
His funeral will take place later on Monday.
