Suzanne Somers 'proud' of nearly-nude 'birthday suit' photo: 'I was 73 and it was natural'

This is the second of three installments in Yahoo Life's Unapologetically Suzanne video series, starring Suzanne Somers.
Suzanne Somers is 74 years old and thriving: the step-by-step alum has a great sex life with husband Alan Hamel and likes to wear short shorts when the temperature gets hot enough - as is often the case at her Palm Springs home is. Calif.
And sometimes clothing is completely optional - for example, when Hamel took a photo of her in 2019, where she was crouching almost naked in the grass. The picture of Somers went viral quickly.
“To make it look like I'm on the grass, I pulled my straps down and it was quite a cleavage. I wasn't naked, ”she tells Yahoo Life. "I had no idea it was going to go viral, but it went viral because I was 73 and it was natural. I'm proud of this picture."
In Somer's three-part series for Yahoo Life, Unapologetically Suzanne, the star shares why she's not worried about aging - and why she never wants to be 24 again.
“Chronologically, I'm old, but I'm not old,” says Somers. "I'm looking forward to the next three decades, to be honest."
She attributes her joy to her optimistic attitude and explains: "Whenever I have the feeling that something negative is entering my brain, I push it away and exchange it with something positive, something that smells of gratitude and serves me so well has done. "
Any other way does she make sure she stays happy and healthy? By adhering to a healthy diet and avoiding processed foods - a lifestyle choice she focused on after she was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2001.
"I eat like my life depends on it because I had cancer," she explains. "I think my body and my life depend on the food I eat."
"I have good hair and skin, and I don't have terrible wrinkles. And the wrinkles I have don't bother me because when I was 74 I deserved them."
And she deserves to dress exactly how she wants - no matter what the "trolls" say about it.
"I love my body. I wear short shorts at 74 because it's hot where I live," she says. "That picture of me in those short shorts was a few months ago. My granddaughter stayed the night [then] and came down the stairs and said, 'Look at us, we're dressed exactly the same.'"
While Somers may be twins with her 25-year-old granddaughter on occasion, she has no interest in going back to this time of her life.
"If you say, 'Suzanne, you can be 24 again' now, I don't think I would accept that," she says. "I like it better now."
After all, these are their "golden years" for Somers and Hamel.
"We go out, we dance, I get dressed. I wear cocktail dresses. I wear high heels," she says. "So I don't think life could be better."
And it's more than just life in their 70s that Somers is happy with.
"I know that sounds weird, but I really like who I am," she explains. "I really like myself."
