Ted Cruz Mocks AOC Days After She Raised $5 Million for Struggling Texans
Senator Ted Cruz took a moment during his CPAC speech on Friday to pause with Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez for expressing fear during the Capitol riot instead of thanking her for $ 5 million for Texans affected by a mass power and water crisis.
The Texas legislature, who recently returned from his trip to Cancun, Mexico, told the Orlando crowd, "... and AOC tells us she was murdered" - a clear reference to Ocasio-Cortez who said, " I thought I was going to die, "a supporter of former President Trump stormed the US Capitol on January 6th.
Ocasio-Cortez made the comment during an Instagram Live video last month. "I didn't know if I would make it to the end of this day alive, not just in a general sense, but in a very, very specific sense," she said. Soon after, critics of the 31-year-old New York City Democrat claimed she had exaggerated her danger and misled the public into believing she was closer to the rioters than she actually was.

Cruz's bump came a few days after AOC helped raise millions for the hard-hit people in Cruz's home state of Texas, where a winter storm caused nearly 1.8 million Texans to lose electricity and forced about 7 million Texans were to boil tap water before drinking it. When that happened, Cruz was caught flying to Cancun for a family vacation. The Lone Star State Senator said his home "also lost heat and electricity," but he went on the trip to essentially oversee transportation for his daughters.
In the meantime, AOC started a fundraiser for Texans hit by the storm. Together with representatives from Texas, Sylvia Garcia and Sheila Jackson Lee, they distributed groceries at the Houston Food Bank. More than $ 5 million has been raised.
But Cruz wasn't just joking about AOC in his CPAC speech. He also joked about his much-maligned trip to Mexico.
"I have to say Orlando is great," said Cruz at the beginning of his CPAC speech. "It's not as beautiful as Cancun - but it's beautiful!"
