Texans hire Korn Ferry; will Falcons try to do the same?
The last time the Falcons were looking for a new coach after the 2014 season, owner Arthur Blank hired Jed Hughes of Korn Ferry. Hughes may not be available this time.
ESPN.com's Adam Schefter reported over the weekend that Texan owner Cal McNair has hired Hughes to help the franchisee hire a new G.M. and head coach.
Schefter notes that Hughes typically only supports one team in a given hiring cycle.
The Texans won't be a G.M. or a coach until the end of the season. Unless Hughes is willing to work for two teams at the same time (and if those two teams are unwilling to let Hughes split his loyalty and attention between two customers), the hawks must go elsewhere.
On the other hand, the hawks may still go elsewhere. After all, Hughes brought them coach Dan Quinn, the guy Blank had just fired.
Also, and as Rich Eisen pointed out the day before when he visited his midweek show on Peacock, most of the folks in the football business who know football folks could list and arrange interviews and otherwise facilitate a decision-making process in a fairly short amount of time. With longtime NFL executive Rich McKay still serving as President and CEO for the Falcons, Blank shouldn't need an outside tablecloth. McKay should be tasked with compiling a list of candidates for the jobs and beginning the interviewing and hiring process.
The hawks have ample time to conduct their searches as they have decided to kill both Quinn and G.M. Thomas Dimitroff, who has held the job since 2008. Frankly, if McKay can't trust McKay to move the search process forward, Blank should consider cleaning it up.
