The #1 Fruit You Should Be Eating Every Single Day

Let's be honest here. The idea that you should choose one fruit over the other is actually kind of silly. Consuming fruit on a regular basis has a ton of health benefits - especially a wide variety of fruits. However, if you are looking for the best fruits that will bring you all kinds of nutrients in one serving, the answer has to be raspberries. Why? Because raspberries are by far the best fruit because of their high amount of fiber.
Here are some of the reasons raspberries are the best fruit to eat. If you're looking for healthier eating tips, check out our list of the 21 Best Healthy Cooking Hacks of All Time.
Raspberries have the highest amount of fiber.
First, let's look at the nutrient distribution. If you eat 1 cup of raspberries daily, you get 8 grams of fiber - that's 32% of the daily value you need. The reference intake (DRI) for fiber is 25 grams for women and 38 grams for men. Given that the average American is only getting around 10 to 15 grams of fiber today, swapping out your banana for a cup of raspberries in your morning yogurt bowl will significantly increase your fiber intake with minimal effort.
Why is fiber important? For many reasons. Fiber can help flush out the toxins in your body. It can help with your gut health and inflammation, which can lead to autoimmune diseases later. And it can even help you lose weight.
Raspberries are high in fiber, as are blackberries! Both have 8 grams of fiber per cup. So if you need more fiber in your diet, both fruits are great choices. However, when you are not getting enough fiber, here's what happens when you do not eat enough fiber.
Raspberries are full of nutrients.
54% of your DRI for Vitamin C, to be precise. Raspberries also contain a lot of manganese (41% DRI), vitamin K (12% DRI) and iron, magnesium, phosphorus, potassium, copper, thiamine, calcium, zinc and vitamins E, A and B6. Talk about how to really put the nutrients in a small bowl!
Raspberries are also incredibly high in antioxidants, which Healthline says are important for the health of your cells that fight oxidative stress. High oxidative stress is linked to all types of diseases such as cancer, diabetes, and heart disease.
In addition, antioxidants have been shown to have antiaging properties. So when you combine raspberries with this one breakfast item for longer life, you really get the benefits!
What about other berries?
While numerous other berries - such as blueberries and strawberries - are popular shopping staples, the general health benefits you would get from these berries would not be the same. Blueberries are a great source of the same nutrients, but they don't provide nearly as much fiber (3.6 grams). Strawberries are lower in calories and incredibly high in vitamin C, but again, the fiber content is not as strong (3 grams).
Again, it is good for you to eat all kinds of fruits. While the raspberry is certainly a paramount fruit for your health, eating a variety of fruits can ensure that you are getting all kinds of vitamins and nutrients in your diet. The only reason raspberries are a great option - and why we named them the best fruit to eat - is because of the amount of fiber you would get from them.
