However, if you are frequently looking for a store-bought variety to use as a sweet treat on a daily basis, here's what to do: Take the time to review the labels and determine which pint is the best based on the diet facts.
You want something that is lower in calories and saturated fat, and sugar and carbohydrates, but also a pint that is still delicious and indulgent. If you have ice cream, enjoy it! You don't necessarily need a "diet" pint, but you also don't want to go for one that will only ruin your waistline. It's about finding that balance.
While some are definitely on the "naughty" list, there is one that can be described as the worst ice cream ever, according to a nutritionist. Lauren Harris-Pincus, MS, RDN and author of the Protein-Packed Breakfast Club, warns about the next time you have that sweet tooth.

"Ironically, Ben and Jerry's Chubby Hubby is one of the highest-calorie ice cream flavors, made from vanilla-malt ice cream with peanut-fused pretzels with fudge and peanut butter swirls," says Harris-Pincus. "At 470 calories [per serving], it contains 28 grams of added sugar, which is worth more than a full day for women, based on the American Heart Association's recommendations of 25 grams per day for women and 36 grams for men." This small serving also has 75% of the artery-clogging saturated fat intake for a full day. Simply put, that's a lot!
What should you eat instead?
If you're an ice cream fan, there is no need to completely sacrifice your favorite dessert. Instead, just try a different flavor.
"If you love Ben and Jerry but don't love the high price of calories, try the light Moo Phoria ice creams," suggests Harris-Pincus. "The Chocolate Milk & Cookies [flavor] contains light chocolate and vanilla ice cream swirled with chocolate chip cookies for 190 calories per 2/3 cup serving."
That's about 60% fewer calories than the Chubby Hubby Pint with a third less sugar and a whopping 80% less fat per serving. And compared to many light ice creams, these don't contain any sugar alcohols or non-nutritious sweeteners, she explains, which is what keeps them natural.
So you can still have your cake - or ice cream, actually - and eat it too.
