To say the franchise reboot was eagerly anticipated in 2022 would be the understatement of the year - and director Matt Reeves is just as excited for you to see it the way he was to see it done.

The somber action-adventure flick - which just released its second trailer, FYI - will follow the Defender of Gotham with vigilance as it begins its journey. And because it's one of the earliest versions of the DC Comics antihero in the entire franchise, Matt was originally afraid that Robert Pattinson wouldn't approve of the project.
"I was really like, 'Oh my god, that version of that character, that guy who's almost like - if you think of Bruce Wayne as a ruthless rock star in a decaying way - there's this part of me that saw you and I had no idea that you [Robert] would even be interested in playing the part, "the filmmaker said yesterday at a virtual panel for DC FanDome on ComicBook.com.

"And I was like, 'What if Rob doesn't want to play Batman? It's going to be a disaster,'" he continued, laughing. "And then it turned out that you had come a long way to the same goal all by yourself, that you had been obsessed with Batman for years. And when you found out we were doing this version, you were very interested."

In 2019, Twilight actor told Variety that he kept returning to the role and was drawn to the "fighting" and "troubled" masked crusader. "I was very, very focused on it and I don't know why. It just kept coming back to me." He also revealed how he kept "nudging" Matt about the role.

After finding out that the 35-year-old had long wanted to portray the iconic Dark Knight, the rest was history. "It was one of those things that felt really happy and fateful to me. And then we met," said Matt. "I really felt that connection with you that made me think, 'Oh, we're going to be able to come up with something new with this guy and do something really special.' But to me you were always the version of what I saw on the site, and it was about making a new version of Bruce. "
AWWWW, just look at the synergy! We love a great director-star partnership.
