The Latest: Lions kicker Prater ties NFL record
The Latest for Week 15 in the NFL (All Times EST):
Detroit kicker Matt Prater has tied the NFL record for most field goals of 50 yards or more.
Prater scored a 53-yard field goal with 4:09 in the third quarter on Sunday to pull Detroit within 24-18 ahead of the Tennessee Titans. With this, Prater scored the 58th field goal of his career of 50 meters or more and thus set the mark that Sebastian Janikowski had set for the first time in the history of the NFL.
The Lions kicker is in his 14th season in the NFL and he's now 58 out of 78 on field goals 50 yards or more for his career. He's now 5 out of 8 for this season.
Justin Jefferson broke Minnesota's rookie record for receptions in one season.
With his 70th catch, Jefferson surpassed the mark set by Famer Randy Moss at Pro Football Hall in 1998.
Jefferson has five receptions for 83 yards for the Vikings following the Chicago Bears 27-20 in the third quarter. LSU's first round of voting has 1,162 reception yards to top all NFL newbies this year. Moss holds the franchise rookie record in this category with 1,313 yards.
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers lost Carlton Davis to a groin injury.
Davis, who leads Tampa Bay by four interceptions, was disfellowshipped for the remainder of the game against the Atlanta Falcons early in the second half.
The Bucs chase the Falcons 24-14.
Romeo Okwara started a 75-game drought for the Detroit Lions and earned them some points.
Okwara sacked Titan quarterback Ryan Tannehill in the end zone at 3:31 in the second quarter. With the sack, Okwara had his eighth place in his career this season. It was also Detroit's first safety in 75 games, also incidentally against Tennessee on September 18, 2016. That pulled Detroit ahead of the Titans by 21-9.
The Lions also converted the following kick into points when D’Andre Swift scored on a 2-yard touchdown run. But Matt Prater's extra point was far to the left.
The Titans closed the first half with a 38-yard field goal from Stephen Gostkowski for a 24-15 lead.
New England Patriots cornerback Stephon Gilmore left Miami in the second quarter with a right leg injury. He was injured while trying to change the direction of a recipient and was taken to the locker room.
Gilmore was the NFL Defensive Player of the Year in 2019.
The Patriots lead the Dolphins 6-0 at halftime.
Dez Bryant has scored his first touchdown since December 2017, receiving an 11-yard pass from Lamar Jackson for the Baltimore Ravens against the Jacksonville Jaguars.
Bryant made the catch on the left of the end zone late in the first half. It was his first reception of the game and his first result since taking on the New York Giants for Dallas on December 10, 2017.
Bryant missed the 2018 season and last year before signing as a free agent with Baltimore that season. The 32-year-old returned this week after staying on the Reserve / COVID-19 list for two weeks.
When Rodrigo Blankenship scored his second extra point on Sunday, he broke a Colts rookie record of 50 years.
His 37 extra points this season are one more than Jim O’Brien in 1970. O’Brien finished the season 9 seconds ahead to give the Colts the first of their two Super Bowl titles.
Blankenship also needed three field goals to break the franchise's 1983 rookie record (30) set by Raul Allegre. The Colts lead Houston 14-0 after a quarter.
The Dallas Long Snapper L.P. Ladouceur has set an NFL record for regular season games by a Canadian-born player who appeared in his 251st game on a punt in the first quarter against San Francisco.
The 39-year-old native of Montreal broke kicker Eddie Murray's record of 250 games from 1980 to 2000. Ladouceuer joined the Cowboys for their fourth game of the 2005 season and has played every game since. The 2014 Pro Bowler was also in nine playoff games.
Ladouceur was one of the three team captains for the game against the 49ers and the only one who went into midfield for the coin toss before the game. He shares the Dallas Club record of 16 seasons with Jason Witten. If he finishes this season, Ladouceur will be one game behind Witten's franchise high of 255 games. His 251 games in a row are already a club record.
According to the Cowboys, Ladouceur has a perfect record of 2,238 snapshots after the successful punt against the Niners. The division is 1,054 punts, 512 field goals and 672 PATs.
Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau sent Ladouceur a letter of congratulations last week.
Derrick Henry hit another piece of NFL history with his final touchdown.
The reigning NFL rushing leader was able to complete the Tennessee Titans' inaugural run with a 3-yard TD run against the Detroit Lions. This is his 15th of the season and he came into play with 1,532 yards of rushing. He is now the fourth player in NFL history to run at least 1,500 yards and 15 TDs in consecutive seasons.
Henry joins Terrell Davis (1997-98), Shaun Alexander (2004-05) and Larry Johnson (2005-06) to accomplish the feat.
The Jacksonville Jaguars have turned to placekicker Aldrick Rosas to do their punting duties in place of Logan Cooke.
Cooke is sick and Rosas was forced to take the free kick after a safety in Baltimore in the first quarter. Rosas kicked the ball a respectable 53 yards, but there was no pressure.
Cooke is also the owner, so it's unclear who will step in for the Jaguars at this point.
Jason Myers combined the Seattle franchise record with his 30th straight field goal, which put the Seahawks 3-0 ahead in Washington in the middle of the first quarter. Myers is 19 of 19 this season and has tied the Olindo Mare franchise brand.
Washington went three and out on its inaugural run with Dwayne Haskins as starting quarterback and is the only team in the NFL to fail to score on its first possession.
Colt's punter Rigoberto Sanchez is active and is expected to play against Houston less than three weeks after a cancerous tumor was removed.
Sanchez has decided to keep the location of the tumor private. It's unclear whether Sanchez will just stab - as he did two days before surgery - or whether he will also start and serve as the holder of extra points and punts, as he usually does.
Sanchez first became concerned when he felt like something was wrong when he warmed up for kickoffs during practice on Nov. 25. The team's medical staff advised him to have an MRI that revealed the tumor. Sanchez picked this week and lost five times to Tennessee. He made the announcement on November 30th and had an operation the next day.
