The Mandalorian showrunner Jon Favreau clarifies what The Book of Boba Fett is

Jon Favreau clears up this somewhat confusing final title card from Mandalorian season 2.
The showrunner and director, who appeared on Good Morning America on Monday, stated that The Book of Boba Fett will indeed be a standalone spin-off series - not a replacement for season three of The Mandalorian, despite both titles being released in December Will premiere in 2021.
Temuera Morrison (Boba Fett) and Ming-Na Wen (Fennec Shand) will star. Additionally, Robert Rodriguez (who directed an action-packed Boba Fett-centric episode in Season 2) is joining the executive producing team of the new show (and will almost certainly direct an episode as well).
"We didn't want to spoil the surprise during Kathleen Kennedy's big announcement for all of the shows [during Investor Day earlier this month], so they let me keep it a secret," says Favreau. "So this is actually separate from Season 3 of The Mandalorian. But what we didn't say in that announcement is that the next show - what Kathy called 'the next chapter' - will be Boba Fett's book, and then we go into production right after on The Mandalorian, back with the main character we all know and love ... pretty soon after that. a lot of Star Wars content coming out, I think they announced 10 projects, I think so will be 11. "

Favreau also seemed to be hinting that his production partner and fellow director Dave Filoni (The Clone Wars) could take the lead over Ahsoka, the Ahsoka Tano spin-off with Rosario Dawson, saying Filoni was writing that (Favreau tends to take the Mandalorian episodes to write).
He also noted that all of the spin-off series - including the rather mysterious The Rangers of the New Republic - take place on the same Mandalorian timeline.
