The New Airstream Interstate 24X Adds a Dose of Luxury to Van Life
Van Life gets the Airstream treatment.
The latest model from the legendary caravan company, Interstate 24X, is a clear attempt to take the van - and its popularity in the Covid era - to luxurious new heights. Built on the bones of a Mercedes-Benz Sprinter cab chassis, the feature-rich vehicle offers everything you need to comfortably ride on or off the grid.

The Interstate 24X may not be as stylish as Airstream's typical “Silver Bullet” travel trailer, but it's a head-turner when it comes to vans. It also promises to be an incredibly capable vehicle, especially for those who like to stray from the beaten path. All-wheel drive is standard, as is a host of other off-road features, including all-terrain tires and height-adjustable suspension, both of which are crucial when you want to tackle particularly rough terrain. It also has a towable capacity of 5,000 pounds in case you want to bring bikes or toys for the ride.
However, the van is not only designed for off-road use - it can also go offline. An advanced power system consisting of two 100 Ah deep cycle lithium battle born batteries and 400 W military grade solar panels keeps all of the vehicle's electrical systems - lighting, kitchen and entertainment - running. If for some reason neither system can provide the juice it needs, there is also a Cummins Onan 2.5kW generator on board that can be remotely started.
Being a van, the Interstate 24X is nowhere near the most spacious vehicle from Airstream, but the company went out of its way to maximize the space available. Simtex's marine grade carbon gray pillows can be arranged to create the largest sleeping area in a Class B motorhome with space for up to six adults. The modular dining table can now be positioned at one of six places in the cabin. The two front seats can also be turned around and turn the table into a desk if necessary. These features, together with an adjustable L-rail storage system in the walls, ceiling and floor, give you the flexibility you need.
When you open the van’s sliding door, you will also find a galley with a two-burner hob, microwave, sink and plenty of counter space, as well as a small bathroom behind the driver’s side. There's also a Hydronic Timberline stove, hot water system, and 13,500 BTU Quiet series air conditioner to keep you and your travel companions comfortable whatever the weather. And if you have to work on the go, the vehicle is pre-wired for Airstream Connected and has a 5G-enabled cellular antenna.
Airstream Interstate 24X
Of course, you'll pay for all of Airstream's ingenuity. Prepare to spend big bucks to get your hands on Interstate 24X. The van, which is available to order now and is scheduled to begin deliveries this summer, starts at $ 213,850. But hey, if #vanlife is your real home, this can be a bargain.
