How slow is your iPhone loading pages or downloading apps? If you've rolled your eyes at the thought of this question, you might need some good tips to speed things up. There are a few reasons your phone might be slow as a snail. While it's possible that your device is showing its age or the battery needs replacing, there's also a good chance that some of its settings are set in a way that doesn't do you any favors. The good news? There's a quick fix for that. This is the only setting you should always have disabled for a faster iPhone.
Automatic download setting
The iPhone has a feature that allows you to automatically download apps without your permission — and it's a setting that tech pundit Jessica Shee, manager at iBoysoft, should turn off for a much faster device. "Not only does this feature drain your battery, but it also slows down your phone," Shee said. "So by turning off this setting, you can save your battery and keep your phone running smoothly."

Steps to disable the setting
Go to your settings and tap on general settings, Shee instructs. From there, click on the automatic download option and turn it off.
"The automatic download feature runs in the background 24/7 whether you're using your phone or not," Shee said. "Turning it off will prevent this app from using your battery and it will also speed up the system."
Also uncheck: Background App Refresh
Now that you're taking steps to speed up your phone, why not take it a step further and customize background app refresh for even better results?
"Background App Refresh allows apps to check for new content in the background, and while this can help in some situations, it can also slow down your iPhone," said Jimmy Huh, CEO and founder of JH SEO. "That's because every time an app updates in the background, it takes a small chunk of your phone's processing power and battery life.

So if you want to help keep your iPhone running smoothly, the best thing you can do is turn off background app refresh. You can do this by going to Settings -> General -> Background App Refresh and then flipping the switch to the off position.”
This doesn't completely eliminate all background app refreshes on your iPhone, huh warns - some apps, like email, still check for new content even when background app refresh is turned off. "But it will help reduce the amount of processing power and battery life used for background refresh, and that can make a noticeable difference in your iPhone's speed and battery life," Huh said.
Bottom line: you can take steps today to take your phone from super sluggish to more efficient.
