The Rights To The Viral Fyre Festival Cheese Sandwich Tweet Are Being Auctioned Off Online

From Delish
It's been four years since the most epic party that should ever take place never happened. Yes, I am talking about the infamous Fyre Festival founded (but never actually carried out) by Billy McFarland and rapper Ja Rule. Although it has been a while since many documentaries came out that piqued the public's curiosity about what was going on behind the scenes, a famous tweet about the food being served during the "festival" is now being sold online.
ICYMI: The Fyre Festival was a music festival that was to take place in the spring of 2017 on the island of Great Exuma in the Bahamas. It was promoted by stars like Kendall Jenner and Bella Hadid but was ultimately a complete failure. The event was eventually canceled due to a variety of behind-the-scenes communication problems, and instead of being promised gourmet food and villas, guests were given tents and sadly wrapped sandwiches instead.
Honestly, sandwiches get it right, and a viral tweet from Twitter user @ trev4president revealed exactly what was being made available to guests: "The dinner @fyrefestival promised us was served and made up by Steven Starr literally made of bread, cheese and salad with dressing. " read the tweet. The photo opposite shows two slices of wheat bread, two slices of cheese and a handful of lettuce with a tomato on top. The image has since fallen into disgrace, and Ja Rule's Flipkick platform is actually selling the rights to the image in an online auction.
The tweet is being sold as an NFT, a non-fungible token, a type of technology that acts as proof of ownership of something that isn't necessarily tangible. This NFT includes a transfer of copyright to the buyer and will be auctioned on April 24th. It is estimated that this NFT will cost around $ 80,000.
"Meme. Cultural touchstone. Cheese sandwich," reads the description of the NFT auction site. "After an inconvenient dinner, the photographer Trevor DeHaas took the most iconic picture of the most famous debacle of 2017 - the Fyre Festival. Two limp white slices on wheat bread lay like the lifeless body of Icarus and lamented the hubris of the people. A timeless image of inestimable cultural import which is now being sold as a one of a kind NFT. "
