It's no secret that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have a, um, strained relationship with the royal family, and apparently the situation is so tense that palace staff have a nickname for them.
According to a Mail on Sunday excerpt from author Gyles Brandeth's forthcoming book Elizabeth: An Intimate Portrait, "whenever the names of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex come up in court circles, courtiers flinch and change the subject or refer to them as 'People living abroad.'"
Meanwhile, Brandeth writes that when "Harry and Meghan are mentioned to members of the royal family, they just give a quick smile and say, 'We wish you well,' and nothing else."
Really cold/rude.
Anyhow, this reveal comes amid royal preparations for Prince Harry's forthcoming memoir, Spare, not to mention the couples' Netflix docuseries, which are rumored to be released on December 8th. While she didn't see either project, according to Brandeth, she was "always more concerned about Harry's well-being than 'that TV nonsense,'" so at least that's something!
Brandeth adds that Her Majesty just wanted Harry to "find his feet" and "find really useful things to do" in California, and was basically pretty chilled when it came to the royal family drama. We're hoping the rest of the royals can take a leaf out of their book - but given a recent report that Prince William and Kate Middleton won't be seeing the Sussexes when they're all on the east coast in a week, it seems like it will remains tense for the time being.
