'The Simpsons' alludes to Bernie Sanders's toxic supporters: 'Everybody's got goons'

Bernie Sanders made a little cameo on The Simpsons on Sunday night, and little by little we're not just referring to the fact that the scene itself was only 10 seconds long.
During the third episode of season 32, titled "Now Museum, Now You Don't," Lisa stays home from school to explore the wonders of Western art. During this episode, each family member assumes the role of a famous artist. In one scene, Marge Simpson portrays Frida Kahlo and explains: "We hate the capitalists. Right now a young socialist is being born who will take care of them. Mr. Bernie Sanders. I hope he'll be there quickly."
Cut to an already white-haired and wrinkled baby, Bernie Sanders, in the sandpit: "A cootie shot shouldn't cost your lunch. And if you don't listen to me, listen to the Bernie babies. What? Everyone has idiots."
The popular animated series that made fun of the Senator and alluded to the "Bernie Bros" with the "Bernie Babies", a name given to some of Sanders' most intense supporters, did not go unnoticed among viewers. In fact, after the scene aired, they quickly pointed out the reference on social media:
While Sanders has asked his followers to stop harassment in real life, and has even stated that "harassment of any kind is unacceptable," the Simpsons presented his reaction a little differently when the Bernie Babies with milk bottles as weapons used to beat another child the playground while baby Bernie says, "I refuse and appreciate it."
The Simpsons airs at 8 p.m. on Sundays. on FOX.
Watch black actor Alex Désert replace Hank Azaria as the voice of "Carl" in "The Simpsons":
The season 32 premiere of "The Simpsons" features a black actor's voice for Carl
Alex Désert made his debut as the voice of Carl Carlson during the 32nd season premiere of "The Simpsons" on Sunday. Carl had previously been voiced by white actor Hank Azaria, even though the character is black. Désert, who is also black, is part of a show's commitment to have colored characters pronounced by color performers. Désert's debut apparently was well received by viewers on social media, and many appreciated the show's attempt to be more inclusive. Fox recently announced that Black Family Guy character Cleveland Brown will be voiced by black actor Arif Zahir.
