The War With Grandpa topples Tenet's box office lead with $3.6 million

The cinema industry gets a little boost from Robert De Niro's The War with Grandpa as it takes on Tenet's box office leadership for $ 3.6 million.
According to Comscore, Christopher Nolan's action film moves into second place with 2.1 million US dollars and brings the 1993 Hocus Pocus to 1.2 million US dollars. The top 5 are rounded off by Fox's The New Mutants with 685,000 USD and Unhinged by Solstice Studios, which grossed $ 660,000.
The Tim Hill-directed comedy follows Ed (De Niro), a grandfather who recently moved in with his daughter Sally (Uma Thurman) and her family and is set to take over his grandson's room. But young Peter (Oakes Fegley) won't give up without a fight.
With an original release date for 2018, The War with Grandpa waged its own battle for distribution, which was put on hold due to the Harvey Weinstein scandal that led to the breakup of Dimension Films from The Weinstein Company. After several delays, the distribution rights were reclaimed from the producers and later bought by 101 studios in June 2020.
However, don't feel bad for Tenet. During the seven-week term, 323 million US dollars were raised worldwide.
