The world’s biggest carbon-sucking machine is switching on in Iceland

The plant operated by the Swiss mechanical engineering startup Climeworks, known as Orca, will consume around 870 cars a year. Orca will increase total global DAC capacity by approximately 50%, adding to the dozen smaller facilities already operating in Europe, Canada and the United States. The system consists of eight boxes the size of shipping containers, each equipped with a dozen fans that suck in air.
