These Supplements Sold Online Have Dangerous Ingredients, FDA Warns
If you've bought supplements from Amazon or eBay, you should reconsider. The Food and Drug Administration published a press release on December 17th warning against buying certain supplements from online retailers because they contain potentially dangerous ingredients.
After buying some weight loss supplements and male sex enhancement supplements from retailers like Amazon and eBay, the FDA found that they "contain active pharmaceutical ingredients that are not on their labels," which can seriously harm your health. They added that some of these ingredients are found in prescription drugs. If you're not careful, taking these supplements can cause serious side effects. These dangerous ingredient supplements have been a hot topic with the FDA for years, but they don't see them being any less common both online and in stores. Indeed, the FDA has asked retailers to be more careful about choosing items to sell to the public as it can be expected that if they stop wearing supplements with dangerous ingredients, fewer people will be at risk of injury.
After purchasing 26 products from Amazon and 25 products from eBay, the FDA ran tests on all supplements. The results showed that approximately 80% of the products purchased contained "Sildenafil, Tadalafil, Vardenafil, Sibutramine, Desmethylsibutramine, Phenolphthalein, and / or Fluoxetine", all of which are prescription drugs. For an on-going list of all the products that the FDA has identified as problematic, see their Contaminated Products database.
To avoid problems associated with taking supplements with dangerous ingredients, especially for weight loss, you can instead rely on a healthy lifestyle with moderate diet and exercise. Experts have long debated the pros and cons of weight loss supplements, but the most important aspect of losing weight is to change your lifestyle more naturally first.
If for any reason you are contemplating taking supplements, the first thing to do is check with your doctor about your concern. Together, you can determine the best course of action that is both safe and healthy.
