Walmart has long been one of Kallie's favorite discount destinations, she told Yahoo Life. But she took a year-long break from shopping in stores during the pandemic. That's how she discovered that bargain hunting on Walmart.com - with her Walmart + membership and the Walmart app - was just as generous. Walmart quickly became her real go-to place for bargain shopping.
We asked Kallie to share some of her top secret discount shopping tricks at Walmart. These six unique strategies prove that rules were made to be broken.
1. She shops online ... at her local Walmart store.

It might sound absurd to drive to a stationary Walmart just to whip out your smartphone and do some virtual shopping, but that's exactly what Kallie does to save the most money while stocking up on cleaning supplies, groceries, and other household items. “When I shop at Walmart, I always use the app to shop,” says Kallie.
Walmart's free mobile app for iPhone and Android has a built-in scanner that shows the retail price of each product, which is often drastically lower than the sticker price. The GPS feature also lets you switch between nearby Walmart stores, so you can compare prices on the exact same goods to see which store has it most tagged.
"Especially for larger ticket items, I switch to a closer Walmart or two and always check Walmart.com," noted Kallie. She said this type of "showrooming" technique is key to maximizing your savings on clearance items. “You just type 'share' into the Walmart.com search bar and you'll see everything on the website that is marked for approval. Then switch to your app and find the nearest store with the best sale prices for these items. "
However, when Kallie finds the lowest price on Walmart.com, she just buys online and thanks to her Walmart + membership, enjoys free shipping from any of her local Walmart stores. Free next-day shipping and two-day shipping on all Walmart.com orders (no minimum required!) Is one of the best perks of having a Walmart + account. You also get fuel discounts - 5 cents off per gallon of gas at Walmart & Murphy stations - and free shipping on groceries! A Walmart + membership is a must for any bargain shopper.
2. For the greatest savings, she skips the obvious discounts and does all of the retail shopping.

Here's a hot tip: Walmart stores have lots of sale items hidden away, but their price tags haven't been updated so it looks like they're still available at full price. Kallie uses the Walmart app to scan the prices of all goods to see which goods are "secret" and exactly where to find them at the lowest current price, be it in-store or online. (See how one savvy bargain shopper made his career discovering secret $ 1 sales at Walmart.)
She also skips the obvious and disappointing discounts like Walmart's famous "rollback" items. Why? She has bigger fish to fry. "Rollbacks are not reduced [as much as] hidden clearance items," she said. "Obviously the rollback is exactly what it is - you know, it's going to be a dollar less everywhere, as advertised."
Kallie says the best selling items in the store are grouped together and the bigger discounts are right in front of your face. “When you see rollbacks, you can assume that things related to these products may have even deeper discounts. Take the extra 60 seconds to scan the other items alongside a rollback and see if they are better priced than the advertised one. "
3. She prefers to buy yesterday's trends.
Kallie is a different kind of influencer. This blogger and social media expert isn't here to necessarily showcase the hottest items of the season - she is here to promote the biggest deal-hunting tips of the day, and that often means the hottest vacuum of last year to buy the older version of an Instant Pot or the last generation of a tablet.
That's because Kallie knows that the biggest discounts come when Walmart tries to clear out its inventory to make room for new merchandise. "If there are only one or two left of a product, it could mean it has been discontinued or there is a newer version of it, so I'll take the time to do a few quick scans."
Even better, she can log into her Walmart + account and use the “Mobile Scan & Go” function, with which she can check out digitally - no contact required and no queuing.
4. She only shops one week a month.

Okay, Kallie doesn't limit her Walmart trips to one week a month, but if she had to, it would be the first week of each month. Then she is looking for the best offers.
"Try to plan your Walmart purchase during the first week of the month because [then you] are likely to get the discounts before other people shop," she said. It is actually well known among bargain hunters that large discounts for items are planned at the beginning of the month - especially in the first five days. So if you'd rather do all of your shopping in one fell swoop and save a bit of loose change at once, mark your calendar!
5. She buys clothes without trying them on.
Whether or not her local Walmart actually has a changing room - and especially if the changing rooms were closed due to Covid - Kallie would never try on clothes before buying them. Why bother? Walmart's return policy is just so convenient.
“You can even initiate a return on something you've bought right in the app,” said Kallie. “And when you get to the store, you literally only have to hand in the item, which is really nice. Walmart makes returns super, super easy. "
According to Walmart's official guidelines, you can also return items by post or scheduled home pick-up via the app. So when you see an item that you want to get on sale, don't think twice about it!
6. It prefers Walmart over other retail giants for the best prices and convenience.
“At Walmart, I almost always find the best deal. So now I go to Walmart by default instead of automatically going to [another online retail mega-store], ”claims Kallie. She just feels that Walmart is ahead in many ways.
"A lot of people obviously love [other retailers] for the free, fast shipping, but Walmart offers free next day and two-day shipping and you don't even have to be a membership," she says - although a Wamart + membership has many perks and costs just $ 12.95 per month.
“And I think the inventory on Walmart.com is really, really great. I relied on the website a lot during the quarantine, ”adds Kallie. “And there are so many things in the store too. You can just shop online for things right in the store and then pick them up. And it's free and fast. I've found that using the Walmart app is just as good as using Amazon's. The options are just as good, the shipping just as good, and you often get a better price. "
