This Supportive Bride Was More Than OK With Her Bridesmaid Pumping During Wedding Photos

Parents who commit to pumping only know that sticking to a schedule is everything. When Allison Hepler agreed to attend her best friend Rachael Downs wedding on October 25, 2019, she planned her pump sessions to the second. But of course, plans often go wrong - especially during weddings - and when Allison was asked if she would be comfortable posing for a picture with her breast pump in tow, she didn't flinch. Thankfully, photographer Amber Fletcher captured the perfect shot and it pays homage to parents everywhere.
"Rachael has always supported me and knew exactly what I needed as she was already on this path," Allison told POPSUGAR. "So I was pumping four times a day at the time of their wedding. One was when we were getting ready and the other was just before the ceremony. I tried to squeeze in a session while Amber took pictures of the groom and groomsmen. "

The groomsmen finished a little earlier than expected, and when Amber asked all the bridesmaids to pose for pictures, Allison had a few minutes left for their session. "Amber came up to me and asked if I would mind getting stuck for pictures," Allison explained. "I thought she was crazy but I'm all for a funny picture. I told her I don't mind doing it as I'm all for normalizing breastfeeding and pumping only. I walked out like that while some people were already arriving at the wedding! "

Since Rachael has been friends with Allison for 15 years and is herself the mother of a 5-year-old daughter, she really wanted to include her bridesmaid's breast pump in a photo or two. She was determined to get some light-hearted shots of the day anyway, but the result was better than she'd ever imagined.
"We wanted to do a bridesmaid-style recording and we wanted to come up with something funny," said Rachael. “Half of us in the photo are mothers who have pumped or breastfed, and we all support that. So it was natural and fun that we could do it while taking a picture! It's just proof that mothers do have to do what mothers have to do! Plus, anything that normalizes feeding babies is awesome to me! "
