Tons of skin care products promise to minimize the look of your pores, which essentially means unclogging them. When your pores appear large, it's usually because they're filled with oil and sebum, or even makeup and dirt, and that's what you're seeing. So no, makeup will not solve the problem. Exfoliating properly is key, and one TikTok user shares how she does it so you can unclog your pores once and for all.

In a video posted on TikTok, @annaytime shared that her nightly skincare routine involves gently massaging the clogs in her pores, and of course everyone wanted to know how she does it. (The video has been viewed 6.5 million times.) Luckily, she shared her routine and products in a few follow-up videos, but she credits BHA as the powerhouse.
First, she uses a BHA leave-on product containing 2% salicylic acid in the morning about four times a week. BHA stands for beta hydroxy acids, which the FDA says improve skin texture, reduce fine lines and wrinkles, and cause less irritation than alpha hydroxy acids (AHA). They're both considered chemical peels and after use, your skin will feel pretty smooth straight away.
You've probably been using BHA products without realizing it—salicylic acid is a BHA and is found in many acne products.
"Salicylic acid is key because it's oil-soluble, which means it gets deeper into your pores to loosen all that oil, dirt, and grime better than other chemical peels," she explained in another video.
In the evening, she uses a cleansing oil or balm and massages the clogged pores for a maximum of two minutes. As you do this process over time, you will feel the clogs physically coming out.
Remember @annaytime is not a dermatologist or esthetician. However, her profile states that she is a former beauty shopper and "your Asian skincare bestie."
If you'd like to try this process for yourself, take a look at some of the skincare products @annaytime recommends. When it works, you can minimize the appearance of your pores for smoother, clearer skin.
1. Paula's Choice Skin Perfecting 2% BHA Liquid Scrub, $32

This is one of the original BHA exfoliant products, but remember it's quite powerful. You may need to work your way up to using a 2% salicylic acid solution or use it every other day to start.
2. Benton Aloe BHA Skin Toner, $19

Benton's BHA skin toner contains just 0.5% salicylic acid and combines it with aloe so it's a little gentler on skin, helping to hydrate as you exfoliate.
3. COSRX AHA/BHA Clarifying Treatment Toner, $20

This toner is especially good for people with sensitive skin or BHA beginners. It also contains all-natural willow bark and apple water to soothe irritation.
4. Versed Day Dissolve Cleansing Balm, $17.99
This is exactly the cleansing balm that @annaytime uses in her original video, she says. It melts makeup away while moisturizing.
5. ROHTO Hadalabo Gokujun Cleansing Oil, $13.99 (orig. $18.99)
