Tony Finau moves into automatic position in U.S. Ryder Cup standings
Tony Finau may not have finished Sunday's win on the Riviera, but his playoff loss and runner-up at the Genesis Invitational were good enough to put him in the automatic position in the U.S. Ryder Cup scoring.
Finau, who made his Ryder Cup debut in 2018, jumped from 11th to 6th while knocking Collin Morikawa out of the top six. While Finau has not won since the 2016 Puerto Rico Open, he has 10 runners-up worldwide since that win, including at each of his last three consecutive events.
Genesis winner Max Homa also made a big jump, climbing 20 places to 14th place, as did Sam Burns, who finished third on the Riviera and is now 31st in points. Meanwhile, Tiger Woods, who showed little optimism about his health and possible return at the CBS booth in Los Angeles on Sunday, dropped to 24th.
