Tony Soprano Once Threatened to Beat Up Harvey Weinstein
In Hollywood history as in Hollywood films, there are good and bad people. Sopranos star James Gandolfini was definitely one of the good guys, while Harvey Weinstein was definitely one of the bad guys before going out as a sexual predator. So it is very satisfying to hear that Gandolfini once threatened physical violence against Weinstein.
As early as 2012, Gandolfini appeared in Killing Them Softly with Brad Pitt, a film distributed by The Weinstein Company. Gandolfini had performed once in 60 minutes, but he just didn't feel comfortable doing talk shows. Steve Schirripa, a regular soprano guest, recently told Joe Rogan that he didn't find him interesting enough.
That didn't stop Weinstein from annoying Gandolfini to promote The Late Show with David Letterman to the point where Gandolfini was pissed off.
"[Gandolfini] said," Harvey Weinstein keeps calling, he wants me to do Letterman and I said no, "Schirripa recalled." And he got mad with Jim. And Jim said, "I'm going to be Harvey Weinstein Beat the devil! He'll call me damn it, I'll fuckin 'him again! For the money he paid me, I don't fucking do it! "Swear to God. And that's especially the shit of Harvey Weinstein when he was king. "
What is crazy about this story is how untypical it was for Gandolfini. Tony Soprano may have had anger and questionable ethics issues, but the guy who played him didn't.
"He wasn't like that," added Sopranos alum Michael Imperioli. "He was more like a hippie, you know? He was very relaxed, wearing birch sticks and a headscarf on his head. "
Gandolfini was already loved, but hearing that he had such personal hostility to one of the worst people on the planet makes us all the more like him.
